Bluebird Self Storage of Canada expands in the Greater Toronto AreaThe company has already opened four of the 10 sites in Mississauga, Toronto and Woodbridge
February 21, 2025: Bluebird Self Storage, which operates facilities across five Canadian provinces, is opening 10 new facilities in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in 2025, including ground-up construction projects and conversions of existing buildings. All will be designed by Leonardo Romanese Architect Inc. and constructed by Maple Reinders.
Bluebird has already opened four of the 10 sites in Mississauga, Toronto and Woodbridge. The remaining six are slated for Burlington, Mississauga, Toronto, Vaughan and Whitby. The company is also seeking acquisition opportunities, the source reported.
“We believe there is tremendous runway available for Canadian self-storage development, especially and initially in the Greater Toronto Area and the Golden Horseshoe,” said managing principal Reade DeCurtins, who added that the GTA market is underserved. “There is a lack of supply in general and specifically, in class-A product,” he said.
Statistics show that Canada has an estimated three square feet of self-storage per capita. The GTA has a population approaching 6.5 million, the source reported.
Bluebird is a subsidiary of civil-engineering firm Budget Development Partners. It operates more than 30 self-storage locations across Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec.
