The project is expected to open in spring

December 26, 2024: Sandpiper Holdings is developing a self-storage facility in Rantoul, Illinois, on the parking lot of the former Ruger’s Bowling Alley. The project at 1568 E. Grove Ave. initially will comprise 30,000 square feet, with plans to expand. It’s expected to open in spring. The developer has yet to determine if it’ll also convert the site’s 32,000-square-foot building, according to company partner Brandon Moore. The bowling alley opened in 1964 as Maplewood Lanes but has been vacant since 2022. Sandpiper operates a storage facility on Monticello Road in Tolono, Illinois.
