The self-storage was converted from an existing building
March 26, 2014- Eastland Storage was converted from an existing building at 836 East Pittsburgh-McKeesport Blvd. The building housed Michaels Associates, a company that distributes educational books. Owner of the building, Greg Michaels, decided to convert the building to self-storage after researching the industry.
He also consulted with township officials on the demographics of the area and determined self-storage would be a good fit for the existing structure. The building is considered a landmark due to its proximity to the now-empty Eastland Mall, Michaels said, and the demographic study revealed a large elderly population and an abundance of apartment residents in the area.
Michaels attended self-storage tradeshows and met vendors according to the source. The facility has 99 storage units. The unit sizes range between 25 to 150 square feet. It will have amenities which include a kiosk and free use of the facility’s moving van for new customers.
