The zoning change to urban employment will allow ezStorage Corp. to develop self-storage facility in the area
March 20, 2014- ezStorage Corp. is willing to develop 150,112-square-foot self-storage facility in Gaithersburg, MD at 14 Firstfield Road. Parent company Sienna Corp. has filed the application requesting to change 3.13 acres of a 4.6-acre plot from general commercial zoning to urban employment which will enable the development of the storage facility.
Commercial zoning in Gaithersburg does not include warehousing, which is the designation necessary for self-storage, according to Yum Yu Cheng, an attorney with Linowes and Blocher LLP, who appeared before city officials this week as a representative for Sienna.
According to the documents the proposed facility would have 1,100 self-storage units, an office space and a residential unit for the manager. The Gaithersburg, Md., City Council and Planning Commission are considering the application.
ezStorage was founded in 1987. It is based in Columbia, MD. The company operates 45 self-storage facilities throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
