The facility generates more solar energy than it consumes
January 9, 2019: Illinois based real estate investment firm Farragut Investments Inc. has developed a “net-zero energy” self-storage facility in Austin, Texas in the year of 2016. The property located at 6130 E. Ben White Blvd. is managed by self-storage real estate investment trust CubeSmart. Farragut worked closely with the Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) program to incorporate energy, material-conservation and water strategies to minimize the facility’s environmental impact.
The CubeSmart-managed facility has received LEED Platinum Certification. The property earned more points under the LEED v4 O M: Warehouses and Distribution Centers rating system than any other property in the state.
The facility is in a growing area southeast of Austin. The facility will be useful for more than 35000 residents within the five-mile radius. The property is near to Highway 71 and visible to approximately 93,000 vehicles per day.
“Environmental, social and governance performance indicators are increasingly important to our customers, teammates, investors and the communities we serve “Receiving this important certification demonstrates our commitment to pursuing investment opportunities that improve the energy efficiency of our portfolio and positively impact the environment for the benefit of all our stakeholders.” Said by Christopher P. Marr, CEO and president of CubeSmart.
CubeSmart now operates 20 self-storage facilities in the Austin area. The company owns or operates 703 self-storage facilities across the country. CubeSmart’s operating portfolio comprises more than 44.8 million square feet.
