October 4, 2018: The Denver-based Big Door Holdings company established in 2017 is planning to build condominium self-storage on a 2-acre vacant lot on Wilhelm Road in Mundelein. According to the source, the units will be designed for the storage of classic cars, boats and RVs, but can also be converted to art studios, office space, etc.
The self storage facility would include 38,000 square feet of space in three buildings with 30 to 40 units. To sold individually, the unites would range from 500 feet to 2,500 square feet with facilities like climate control, electricity, Internet connectivity, water and other utilities. The construction is expected to take 10 months. The condominiums would cost $80,000 to more than $200,000, as per the reports.
As per the source, the village board approved Big Door’s request to build its condo self-storage project in Mundelein in the last week. The special-use permit was issued on Sept. 24 without any debate.
