U-Haul announces the conversion of lumber yard to self-storage in Harlingen, TX
Established in 1945, U-Haul owns over 44 million square feet of storage space

May 10, 2017: Phoenix-based U-Haul International Inc., which manages over 1,300 self-storage locations across North America, is converting a lumber yard to self-storage in Harlingen, Texas.

According to the source, the company purchased the former ProBuild Holdings LLC building at 1218 Ed Carey Drive nine months ago for $1.5 million.

The $900,000 renovation and expansion, expected to be complete in December, will include 372 units, some of which will be climate-controlled. The site will also feature a rental showroom that sells moving and packing supplies, hitch bays, covered loading and unloading areas, and controlled access.

The Harlingen property will be U-Haul’s fourth in the region. “The Rio Grande Valley continues to grow and we are catching up. We are at the farthest southern point of Texas, and the area has been underserved,” said Mark Reinitz, marketing company president for U-Haul Co. of Corpus Christi.
